THE ART OF MANIFESTING

ABRACADABRA!

Like millions of other people, I watched a movie called, "the Secret," where a group of people pitched the Law of Attraction. In documentary style, they convince the audience that all one has to do is think about the thing they want, believe they can receive it, and then they will receive it. One person even went as far as to call it "placing your order with the universe."

While I definitely believe that "Thoughts are Things," and that "Like Attracts Like," and that there is definitely something to the Law of Attraction, I give the credit to God. There are a multitude of religions with one single entity reigning supreme, most of them the one, true, God many of us know and love. In the world of quantum physics, this entity would be known as, "the source of all energy."

I have to say that even though I am not as successful as I plan to be, and I have had a lot of bad things happen in my life, my "luck" is changing for the better. My mom and other key people in my life have been telling me for years, since long before that movie ever came out. My mom told me about Florence Scovel Shinn this morning, and I have been reading a little of her writing. I like what I read because she bases it on readings from the Bible, for example, "Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap."

She is also adamant that the person should do what Joe Vitale calls "Nevillizing," which is living like the desired thing has already been received. This is taken from the teachings of another God-fearing man, Neville Goddard.  However, his take on the Bible was a little different than anything I am able to align my belief system with.

I am still working on the acquisition of that kind of unwaivering faith, so I am working on manifesting bigger things than parking spaces and treadmills (I have manifested two treadmills...now I just need to manifest the energy to use one!).

There are so many people who have written about the Law of Attraction, but they don't all refer to the Lord, which I find to be the center of my universe! I know that some people choose not to believe in God because of one thing or another that happens to them, but I am not one of those people.

The Lord has guided me through a maze of heartache and loss. But still, I find my way through with His help. I spend more time at church these days than ever. And it seems that since I have been spending so much time reading His word and praising Him in the choir, my life has opened up in many ways. I no sooner mention to someone (not even necessarily someone with the church) that I have a need, and the thing I need appears.

Right down to help with my rent last month, food on the table, my business picking up and people giving me things that I really needed (or my children needed)! Since God has become central in my life, my needs are met tirelessly.

Amen!

I think there is a fine line between believing that God will supply all your NEEDS (which is what He promised) and believing He will "manifest" what we WANT.

It's very easy to get caught up in the hype and miss what He really wants for us, and those things are mostly not materialistic.

Very interesting Hub...I have never really thought of life in that context,ie: depending on something outside my control to " manifest " a want or need...I'm thinking that maybe belief or faith would be a necessary ingredient in order to pursue this line of thought...

Thanks for this thought provoking read...Larry

Duchess, I agree. It seems that the things I need are always at my feet. And I have had a few things manifest otherwise as well, such as treadmills. I said one time that I needed to get a treadmill, and one magically appeared in my life, for free. I gave it to my sister. Then I regretted getting rid of it, so another one magically appeared. I'm not joking. The same thing just happened to me yesterday with a dresser. My dresser drawer broke, and I said to someone that I needed another dresser that was in better shape. Someone altogether different (who has never met the person I told this to) delivered a dresser last night, along with a few other things that I needed!

Larry, thanks for reading! I believe that things come to us to read when we are ready for them. Many things, we have to take with a grain of salt. But certain books have literally fallen into my hands at choice moments in answer to specific questions I had about life. It never fails. We ask, we believe and then we receive.

Glad you liked the hub!

Duchess O'Blunt, you picked the thought right out of my mind and expressed it better than I could! That's what I was thinking--that God looks after us all, but not always by giving us exactly what we think we want. Sometimes there are important lessons to be learned through adversity; the lesson itself is more necessary and valuable than any creature comforts. However, Advisor, I admire your faith and like your articles very much. I very much admire your spirit.

Thank you, Paradise7, and I actually agree with what you said there!

I do agree with what was said, but it is so much more than that. Yes, we have to face adversity. But I do agree with Esther Hicks on that when she says that we experience what we do not want so that we will know what we do want. It is in focusing on what we do want that we get what we need in life. Sometimes, we ask a question and look for the answer in places we expect the answer to come from. But the answer is not always coming from that place. And sometimes the answer is not what we want to hear.

Life is a learning experience in and of itself. We are supposed to follow our internal guidance system (feelings and emotions) so that we can be directed to the right place to learn what we need to learn and possibly even teach what we need to teach.

I believe that we all come here with a purpose. That purpose is in teaching as well as learning. In either case, we can either learn by living the way we want to live or by making bad choices and living the way that makes us uncomfortable and an example of how not to live.

I believe that God put these things (energy, Law of Attraction, quantum physics, etc.) in place so that we can learn to manage our lives in a way that teaches us what to do and not to do. I believe that He is the source of all this energy that we are working with.

Too many things have happened in my life that make me unable to discount the claims of this type of theory, but I want to make sure that God is still in the picture when people are reading my articles, because I believe that He is definitely still LARGE and IN CHARGE!!!.

We are on the same wavelength, expressions of manifestation are what we sow with a little Karma thrown in for good measure...

Your perspective expressions are a welcomed delight...

Duchess OBlunt: That's why one of the most effective prayers is "Thank You Father".

Because you are thanking him for providing for you, even before you may physically have it.

Very well put, sabreblade.

One of Florence Scovel Shinn's affirmations about money is: "Spirit is never too late. I give thanks that the money has already been received on the invisible plane and that it manifests on time."

I am a Buddhist which means that this method is right there - central to Buddhist teachings - it is however, based on ACCEPTANCE of the world as it is with the knowledge of the "transitory nature of all things" - visualization is part of the meditations I do all the time. But then there's always NAGGING - which can also get you what you want! (see The Zen Art of Creative Nagging) Its a lot more work though! :) I like the down to earth style of your writing!
