GIVING FROM THE HEART

Things Are Not Always What They Seem

There is a definite difference between giving from the heart and giving with the expectation of something in return. I call giving from the heart, "Giving for the Sake of Giving."

There are people who give away things that they don't need, and that is a nice gesture, but it doesn't truly show any act of charity or kindness, not in my book. I guess it is nicer than throwing the stuff away, but a true act of charity is more than that.

It's dedication to humanity. It's volunteering your time. It's standing up for those who can't defend themselves. It's driving an elderly person to the store and helping them shop. It's serving meals at the local soup kitchen. It's babysitting your neighbor's children voluntarily. It's sending money anonymously to someone you know has a need without thought of recompense.

It's giving the shoes on your feet to a homeless person (I know someone who actually did this!). It's giving a box of food to someone who has a family to feed, even if it means you have to go to the store again. It's saving your hand-me-downs for that single parent. It's giving someone a nice gift in-between holidays just because.

There are so many ways to give from the heart. It's staying the extra time to help someone in need, even knowing you may not get paid in the end (knowing what comes around goes around may help here). It's picking up the stranded woman with an infant on the side of the road and helping her get home.  It's volunteering anywhere.

It's walking home from work so that your spouse can have the car. It's so many things. There are so many ways to show kindness. And like attracts like, so kindness is bound to return to you somehow. Sometimes in ways you least expect.

I am reminded of the story of Ruth in the Bible. The kindness she showed by remaining with Naomi, her mother-in-law, after her husband died was repaid later when heard about by Boaz.

The Good Samaritan in the Bible also comes to mind. I'll bet that guy passed it forward.

Normal people appreciate it when someone lends a helping hand. And sometimes, it can start the greatest and longest lasting friendships. I have helped and been helped in my life, and there is no greater feeling than giving from the heart!

This is a great hub advisor. There is nothing better than helping someone out, whether it be giving material things or helping someone solve a problem. For me the best thing is helping solve a problem, like changing a tire for an old man or something like that.

Thanks for reading. I agree! That actually reminds me of a story of a guy who helped an old woman who was stranded. He was in a hurry to get home, and it was raining, but he stopped to help the woman, who was clearly in distress. When the woman went to pay him, he declined. He told her to "pass it forward," even though he desperately needed money. He didn't want to take advantage of her.

Later that day, the woman went to eat at a restaurant. The waitress was pregnant. The old woman left her a VERY hefty tip wrapped in a napkin with a note, after seeing the pregnant woman struggle to work and imagining the home life that poor pregnant woman must have.

Turns out the waitress was the wife of the guy who helped her with her car, and they had been struggling financially. That is not the exact story, but it is the gist of it. That has stuck with me ever since I read it!

What a lovely Hub you have published here. You gave many fine examples of true giving. A sacrifice on ones part, a anonymous gift, a deed with no recompense. I love this Hub. Nicely written, too. :)

AWESOME LOVE By BERNARD LEVINE

To go to the ends of the world

to help a stranger

To give someone incredible kindness

they will never forget

To treat animals and all of nature

with respect and compassion

These are the things that give life true purpose.

To value your special uniqueness

as a beautiful child of God

To elevate your mind

with the higher value of integrity

To upgrade your living environment

planting seeds to enrich the soul

To give a child caring devotion

so they feel they are loved

To rise above your circumstances

with faith in the power of God

And with the purity of healing love

in your heart

your life will know no boundaries.

BLESS SOMEONE TODAY By BERNARD LEVINE

Bless someone today with words of kindness

Do something nice for a friend

Sow seeds of encouragement into a stranger's heart

Tell your loved ones you greatly adore them

Make someone's day precious and beautiful

Give God praise for His greatness

Strengthen your companion with fruits of joy

Add faith to your neighbour's life

Bless someone today and remember - Jesus loves you.
